Goal Setting

Goal Setting: What's my objective?

Specific: Learn the phonetic chart by November 15th, 2016.

Time frames: 6 weeks.

Desired outcomes:

1.To be able to use the phonetic symbols in a classroom setting without relying on a visual chart.

2. To be able to write a message to a friend who knows the chart - without making any mistakes. (This is inspired by a former teacher who would write song lyrics using the chart - for fun!)

3. To plan and stage my learning properly so I get optimal results from my studies.

4. To critically evaluate my progress and fine tune the areas in which I had difficulty.

5. To share my blog with other teachers and students who also want to learn the phonetic chart, so as to help them learn from my successes and mistakes along the way.

Planning: How do I get there?

*My first inclination is to devise a schedule. I have 44 symbols to learn in 8 weeks. If I learn a new symbol each day for 6 days out of the week (8x6=48 days), I should be able to do it with a few days to spare.

*Every Tuesday and Friday (the evenings I don't teach), I will spend an hour practicing with the interactive phonemic chart. I have found 5 resources doing a quick online search. I will try them all to discover which ones are the most user friendly and appeal most to my learning preferences.
